"I am an artist of lines. The line follows rhythms and harmonizes with the figures of intended interest - supporting them, reiterating their gestures and shapes."
~ Gene Hempel Gene Hempel used lines to capture moments in time and the beauty of the outdoors. He used whatever media was on hand to capture what he saw - watercolor pencil, ink, pencil, conte crayon, markers, acrylics. This set of slides is a sample of the variety of subjects that caught the artist's eye during the 1980s. His vision is expressed in both detailed, meticulously worked images of figures and crowd scenes and the broad sweeping strokes illustrating the expanse of nature. |
